Getting Around:

The best way to get around Chicago is by public transport – especially the L Train. Operated by the Chicago Transit Authority, L (short for “Elevated Train”) is cheap and easy to use. The CTA operates an extensive bus system that serves almost every interesting route but can be difficult for newcomers to navigate. Metra Rail also has regional train systems that make stops in suburban and surrounding cities and suburbs. O’Hare International Airport (ORD) is located 18 miles northwest of the suburbs and can be accessed via L’s Blue Line, and Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) is located 11 miles southwest of downtown and can be reached using L’s Orange Line. Cab and ride-healing services are also available, although higher start rates and extra charges make this option somewhat more expensive. Parking garage and street parking fees are also valuable, but if you decide you need a set of wheels, rental agencies can be found at both airports.
